Hyperhidrosis is a condition involving excessive sweating of the hands, face, underarms, and/or feet. In some people, the body’s mechanism for cooling itself is overactive — so overactive that they may sweat four or five times more than is necessary, or normal. When sweating is this extreme, it can be embarrassing, uncomfortable, anxiety inducing, and disabling. It can disrupt all aspects of a person’s life, from career choices and recreational activities to relationships, emotional wellbeing, and self-image.
Everyone’s experience with this condition is different, so be patient, explore all your options and work with your doctor to find the best treatments for your situation.
Several relatively simple treatments are available for the treatment of excessive sweating. Your local doctor or dermatologist can help advise you.Muscle relaxants The injection of a muscle relaxant is an effective treatment of excessive sweating as it inhibits the release of acetylcholine, the chemical responsible for signalling perspiration. It’s a safe and effective technique and solution; however, it is temporary, lasting approximately 6-8 months and may occasionally result in increased sweating in other areas.
