  • Dermal Fillers - Melbourne

    What Are Dermal Fillers?
Lasting up to 12 months, injectable Dermal Fillers smoothe out facial wrinkles, fill out some scars and can create larger, more accentuated lips.

The dermal filler used in our Practice is made from a naturally occurring substance found within the tissues of living cells, including human skin. The substance assists in skin hydration by attracting and holding water; and it combines with special components of the skin to help provide skin structure and elasticity.

    The Dermal Filler Procedure
A topical or local anaesthetic may be applied to help numb the area being treated. The dermal filler is then carefully injected beneath the skin’s surface to diminish the depth of facial wrinkles and folds, and to gently restore natural looking structure and volume to the skin and lips. The procedure usually takes between 15-30 minutes and most people resume normal activities immediately afterwards.

The Healing Process and Dermal Fillers Side Effects
The dermal filler injection should cause minimal discomfort and generally no side effects are experienced.

If side effects are evident, they may include temporary redness, swelling, tenderness and visible lumps lasting two to three hours or occasionally up to a couple of days. If bruising occurs, it may last up to a week or more.

  • Muscle Relaxants

Muscle relaxants are used to help erase, soften and prevent lines on the face, neck and chest. They can also be effective in the treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

    Wrinkles
The injection of a muscle relaxant reduces the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes, such as crow’s feet. It works by blocking the movement of nerves to targeted facial muscles, causing them to become inactive. The skin stretches out and the line becomes smoother, uninhibited by muscular pull. Care is taken to ensure that a natural expression is maintained.

    Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
Muscle relaxants are also used for the temporary treatment of excessive sweating from the armpits (primary axillary hyperhidrosis) and hands (palmer hyperhidrosis). It effectively inhibits the release of acetylcholine, the chemical in the body responsible for signalling the onset of perspiration.

    The procedure
Small amounts are injected with a very fine needle into selected facial muscles (if you are being treated for wrinkles) or the targeted areas of the armpits or hands (for hyperhidrosis). Because the needle is so fine, discomfort is minimised. A simple, safe and non-invasive treatment, it requires no sedation, anaesthetic or recovery time and you may return to work or your usual activities immediately. Effects are usually noticed within a week of treatment and generally last three to four months.

A follow-up appointment is made for two weeks after treatment to ensure the desired result has been achieved.

  • Cortisone Injections

This is a very simple technique that uses a dilute mixture of local anaesthetic and cortisone in the therapy of early scars after surgery, acne or other inflammatory cysts. However, more entrenched or thickened scars may require stronger concentrations of cortisone or other forms of treatment.
